Filled fresh figs with soft goat cheese, dates and hazelnuts

This is one of my favourite “side salads”, especially when figs are in season. The sweetness of the figs works so well with the soft goat cheese and it goes great alongside most dishes. Enjoy with a good glass of white wine.

  • 8 fresh figs
  • 4 Medjool dates
  • Soft goat cheese
  • Bunch of fresh basil and fresh thyme
  • 10 Hazelnuts, roughly chopped
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Good quality olive oil
  • Little honey for drizzle, especially when figs are out of season and they are less sweet.

  1. Wash the figs and cut top off, slice cross wise from top to bottom not cutting the whole way through
  2. Chop dates roughly and put aside
  3. Put a dot of goat cheese in each fig, top with the chopped dates, hazelnuts and sprinkle with fresh herbs.
  4. Drizzle with some olive oil, little honey if you like and season with salt and pepper.
  5. Enjoy.
